So, thanks to a certain Ms Markle, the Canadian Fashion scene is experiencing something of a renaissance right now, with Canadian designers across the spectrum benefiting from the so called “Meghan Markle” affect. “Pandemonium” is how Designer, John Muscat described his cell phone action after Meghan wore his white coat for *that* engagement announcement.
But did you know that Vancouver Fashion Week (VFW) is the longest running and largest fashion event in Canada AND is the 2nd largest in North America after New York Fashion Week eclipsing FWLA? No, neither did I. But it transpires that VFW is the fastest growing fashion week in the world AND The Industry Magazine claims, “VFW rivals London for its title”…the jury is still out on that one, but this diverse, bi annual, fashion week runs in March and September for 7 days and features both existing and emerging designers.
Running for over 30 seasons, last season alone, featured designs from 27 countries…so let’s take a look at some of this season’s offerings.
Based in Coquitlam, British Columbia, AtelierGrandi showcased this slick monochrome look,with strong make up pops of colour for their runway show.
And Sydney based Fashion and Textile Designer, NicoleJedelsky neutral, fluid pieces surely make her one to watch;
Next season kicks off September 17th 2018 and if what TheIndustry says is true, I need to check Vancouver Fashion Week out sooner rather than later, see you there.
